Adding Drama to Your Rooms the Easy Way with Color Drenching

Color drenching is about bathing all the paintable surfaces in your space in the same color.

Color Drenching has come in and out of fashion since the Victorian Era, has been popular with interior designers for a couple of years now, and is one of THE easiest, most DIY-friendly way to add drama to a room because there are no obvious or messy cut-in lines to worry about between colors. 

The look is elevated despite the ease of the process and works as well with whites and pastels as it does with jewel and earth tones. 

How to Color Drench like a Pro

If you want to take your color-drenching to the next level, you can paint your trims, doors, windows, and any wall panels or wainscoting in the same color but a different finish from the walls/ceiling.

Think of multiple finishes as adding a kind of “texture” to your space, which gives the effect of layering, dimension, and visual interest.  

A shinier finish, such as satin or semi-gloss, for highlighting trims, etc., is also easier to clean so it makes sense to use in areas often subjected to hands, paws, traffic, and dings.

By the way, your whole house doesn’t have to be color-drenched. Try it in a nook, hallway, or powder room. A Dining room is also a great candidate for color drenching.

You can also do a partial color drench and leave your ceilings white (or some complimentary/contrasting color) if that works best for your vibe.
